Cornwall Man Jailed for 12 Years for Sexual Offences Against Child

A Cornwall man has been jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of a series of sexual offences against a young girl.

Abuse exposed after victim texted her mum

James George, aged 36, who has links to the Camborne and Helston areas, was convicted by a jury at Truro Crown Court. He was sentenced on Thursday 12th June by His Honour Judge Simon Carr.

George was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault by penetration on a child under 13, and two further counts of sexual assault on a child under 13.

The court heard that the abuse came to light when the victim bravely messaged her mum, disclosing that she had been sexually abused on a number of occasions. The offences were reported to police, and officers arrested George at his address.

In police interview, George denied the allegations.

“George spared no thought for his victim”

Detective Inspector Andy Shorten praised the courage of the victim, saying:

“I would like to thank the victim in this case for having the bravery to speak up and describe what had happened to her.
George spared no thought for his victim and never had the courage to admit what he had done, meaning the victim had to give evidence in court.
This investigation has been a real team effort involving various officers in Cornwall’s Public Protection Unit and we’re pleased that James George has now been brought to justice.
We will continue to investigate all allegations of sexual abuse reported to us, regardless of when it took place.”

George has also been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
