Cornwall Hairdresser Wins £10,000 from SPAR – ‘I’ll Buy My Daughter a Couple of Sheep!’

A mobile hairdresser from Helston has bagged a £10,000 grand prize after entering SPAR’s Frozen Fortune competition – and says she’ll be heading to the sheep sales to celebrate.

“I still cannot believe it!”

Antonia Sharkey was named the winner of the national SPAR Frozen Fortune customer promotion and collected her giant cheque from the SPAR in Helston. Unsure if it was really happening, she sent her partner in ahead of her to check it was genuine.

Antonia was greeted at the store by SPAR Helston Store Manager Jane Rowntree and Alexander Allen, Area Manager for SPAR’s South West distributor Appleby Westward.

“I missed the initial call to tell me I had won the grand prize,” said Antonia. “My reaction was ‘wow’! I could not believe it. I still cannot believe it!”

A cruise, a couple of sheep, and a family treat

Antonia plans to use the winnings on a holiday, likely a cruise, and also has a unique gift in mind for her daughter.

“My daughter is a veterinary nurse who has rare breed sheep so I think I will also buy her a couple to add to her flock! I would also like to treat the family and save a little bit too.”

She added: “January is a dull month, so it has been nice to play something to win money off vouchers, and everyone loves a freebie. I first heard about Frozen Fortune on Facebook, and I signed up and played it most mornings.”

Antonia and her partner are regulars at the Helston store, often popping in for coffee, essentials and using the parcel service.

“I would just like to say thank you to SPAR for running it. It has been brilliant.”

Over 1.5 million game plays during the campaign

The Frozen Fortune promotion gave SPAR customers across Great Britain the chance to win free products, money-off vouchers and a daily £200 holiday voucher from Thursday 2nd January to Wednesday 19th February.

More than 120,000 customers took part in the campaign, with 1.2 million plays of the daily Ice Breaker game and a further 325,000 plays of Fortune Maker, which unlocked after three Ice Breaker plays. On average, someone played the game every 2.7 seconds.
