Shocking Amount of Rubbish Collected in Porthleven Clean-Up
Porthleven Environment Group Fills 17 Bags in Just Two Hours
Volunteers from Porthleven Environment Group (PEG) were out in force today for a litter pick, tackling several areas around the town and uncovering what they described as a “disgusting” amount of waste.
Originally planning to focus on Shrubberries Hill, the team ended up covering Wheal Rose, Parc an Maen, Warren Close, Sunset Gardens, Coopers Lane, Loe Bar Road, and the surrounding areas. Despite the expanded effort, they were met with an overwhelming amount of rubbish.
Alarming Waste Levels
In just two hours, the team collected 17 bags of rubbish along with larger discarded items, including broken signs, hoses, a bucket, broom handles, and an old canvas bag. Volunteers also reported a significant amount of dog mess in the area.
PEG, which was made an Ambassador for Keep Britain Tidy last year, used donation bags from the organisation for the clean-up effort.
Well-Earned Rewards
After the hard work, volunteers were treated to coffee provided by Mike and chocolate tea cakes with jam from Tim.
The group’s efforts have made a visible difference in the area, but the sheer amount of waste collected highlights an ongoing issue in Porthleven.
