One of Cornwall’s key centres for tech innovation and entrepreneurship is about to benefit from a significant boost in internet capability, thanks to a new partnership between Cornwall broadband provider Wildanet and digital engineering specialists, Headforwards. The bespoke gigabit-capable fibre network will ensure reliable, high-speed connectivity at the FibreHub headquarters in Pool, Redruth, as well as for the growing community of tech businesses located there.

Dual Circuits for Reliable Connectivity

The new fibre network will consist of two fully independent gigabit-capable circuits, designed to provide constant, resilient internet access. This upgrade is crucial for Headforwards and its tenants at FibreHub, who require dependable, high-speed connections to manage the high data traffic that comes with global digital operations. With the ability to scale as the community grows, the network will use advanced Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) technology, ensuring high volumes of data can be handled efficiently.

Toby Parkins, Co-Founder of FibreHub and Headforwards, highlighted the importance of the upgrade, saying, “Reliable, fast internet is a business essential, especially in our sector. Dual-routed connectivity means we can provide our FibreHub tenants and users with highly resilient internet connectivity, which can also be faster.”

Supporting Cornwall’s Thriving Tech Sector

The FibreHub, which opened in 2021, is a specialised workspace for businesses in the digital, technology, and software sectors. Currently home to 10 permanent tenants, the facility is set to expand with more space becoming available, alongside hot desking facilities and event spaces. The upgraded network will not only benefit the existing tenants but will also cater to future expansion at FibreHub, supporting its growing reputation as a hub for tech businesses in Cornwall.

Cornwall’s tech sector is one of the fastest growing outside of London, and the enhanced connectivity will further strengthen the region’s competitive edge. Toby added, “Cornwall has one of the fastest growing technology sectors outside of London, and excellent connectivity is vital to maintaining that edge.”

Wildanet’s Mission for Better Connectivity

Wildanet, founded in 2017, has been a key player in bringing high-speed internet to rural and hard-to-reach areas across the South West. The company’s expertise in providing tailored business solutions has earned them national recognition, including the title of Best Rural Fibre Provider at the UK Fibre Awards 2024 and Broadband Provider of the Year at the Connected Britain Awards 2024.

Lawrence Palk, Director of B2B Sales for Wildanet, expressed the significance of this new partnership: “As a rapidly growing technology hub, access to a reliable and future-proof network for Headforwards and FibreHub will be essential to ensure rock-solid resilience to keep their global operations running smoothly and to provide the capacity to scale quickly.”

A Bright Future for FibreHub and Wildanet

As Cornwall’s largest Alternative Network Provider (AltNet), Wildanet is committed to supporting local businesses with high-speed, future-ready broadband solutions. With this new project, the company continues to play a pivotal role in the region’s digital transformation, helping to foster a strong tech community at FibreHub and beyond.
