40 Years of Success: Cornwall Roofing Company Marks Major Milestone

JR Flat Roofing continues to grow while staying true to its Cornish roots.

A well-established Cornwall-based roofing company is celebrating 40 years of keeping buildings dry across the UK. JR Flat Roofing, a leading specialist in flat roofing, has handled contracts for high-profile clients, from coastal hotels to large commercial projects like JD Wetherspoon locations and motorway service stations.

A Legacy of Service

Founded in 1983 by John Rogers, JR Flat Roofing has remained a family business even after John’s passing. John, who grew up in challenging circumstances, turned his life around after serving in the Parachute Regiment, eventually creating a successful company. Today, three of his children, Nick, Phil, and Marion, continue his legacy, with his other son, Adam, working as a commercial airline pilot.

The company’s commitment to helping others is evident through its charitable efforts. JR Flat Roofing recently won a contract with the YMCA in Penzance, saving the charity £10,000 on a project to provide shelter for vulnerable young adults—a cause particularly close to the firm, given John’s own experience growing up in children’s homes.

Building for the Future

Despite its national success, JR Flat Roofing remains deeply connected to Cornwall. The company is planning to build a new office at West Cornwall Business Park in Scorrier, alongside developing other domestic and commercial buildings for lease and sale.

In recent years, the company has also demonstrated a compassionate approach to its projects, such as naming a terrace of three houses after teenage boys, Josh, George, and Harry, who tragically passed away in 2018. A fourth house, currently under construction, will be named Chy Justice.

A Strong Workforce

Reflecting on the company’s growth, Marion Rogers, office manager, noted that JR Flat Roofing has expanded from a single office to a team of five, with a highly-trained workforce. While most of the firm’s commercial contracts come from London and the Home Counties, Marion highlights that the company’s profits ultimately return to Cornwall. JR Flat Roofing has been recognised for its employee-focused culture, receiving the Silver Investors in People award.
