New team to compete in the Cornwall Ability Counts League

Saltash United has announced the revival of its historic ‘Saltash Stars’ football team, a name that dates back nearly a century. The new team will focus on disability football, providing opportunities for individuals with physical and learning disabilities to get involved in the sport.

Led by Passionate Coaches

The team is headed by Simon York, founder of Southwest Inclusive and current Head Coach of Saltash United Women, alongside Gary Carpenter. Both coaches have been working tirelessly to bring the Saltash Stars back to life, and the team is set to compete in the Cornwall Ability Counts League.

“We’ve worked hard to make this team a reality,” Simon shared on the club’s Facebook post. “Disability football is a huge passion of mine, and we’re incredibly proud to lead Saltash Stars into this competition alongside Gary.”

Opportunities for All Abilities

Saltash United’s new disability football team offers PAN-Disability football, which is open to players with both physical and learning disabilities, regardless of whether they’ve been diagnosed or are still undergoing assessment. The team provides a welcoming environment for all players, no matter their level of experience.

Pathways to Progress

As the home of football in Saltash, Saltash United offers clear development pathways for players at all levels. From junior teams to the Third team, Reserves, First Team, and the growing women’s setup, the club ensures that every player has the opportunity to progress and reach their potential.

With the reintroduction of the Saltash Stars, the club is continuing its tradition of inclusivity and community involvement. New players are always welcome, and those interested can find more information, updates, and photos on the Saltash United website.

Big Plans Ahead

While the team is currently starting with one squad, Simon and Gary have hinted at plans to expand in the future, with the aim of growing disability football opportunities across the community.

Saltash United has expressed its gratitude to the Cornwall Ability Counts League and other participating teams for their support and enthusiasm as the Saltash Stars prepare for their upcoming season.
