Graffiti Crisis in Newquay: Volunteers and Businesses Demand Action

Published On: 21 August 2024Last Updated: 21 August 2024By

Newquay residents and businesses rally against repeated vandalism

Newquay is facing a growing problem as local businesses and residents become increasingly frustrated by a surge in graffiti defacing the town. The situation has reached a tipping point, with a recent post by Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) highlighting the issue and calling for action.

Volunteers’ Efforts Undermined

The post draws attention to the recent vandalism at Harbour Height steps, an area that had been freshly painted by volunteers only a few weeks ago. These volunteers have had to return twice to cover up new graffiti, undoing their hard work each time. The relentless acts of vandalism have left many in the community disheartened.

Local Businesses Hit Hard

Businesses in Newquay are also feeling the impact, with their walls becoming frequent targets for graffiti. Owners, who work tirelessly to maintain and grow their establishments, are frustrated by the ongoing damage. The Newquay BID emphasised that these acts are not appreciated by the local community, who are striving to keep the town welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

Partnerships Formed to Combat the Issue

In response to the escalating situation, Newquay BID is collaborating with Devon & Cornwall Police, town centre CCTV operators, and local businesses to put an end to the graffiti problem. The BID is urging anyone with information about the individuals responsible to come forward and assist the authorities in their efforts.

Community Call to Action

Newquay BID has made a public appeal for residents to share any information that might lead to the identification of those responsible for the graffiti. The post encourages the community to unite in protecting their town from further damage and to help ensure that Newquay remains a pleasant place for everyone.

If you have any information, please contact Newquay BID or Devon & Cornwall Police.
