Cornwall Airport Newquay Unveils New Summer Flight Options After Record-Breaking Winter
Exciting New Routes and Enhanced Services Await Travellers
Cornwall Airport Newquay is soaring to new heights this summer, unveiling an enhanced schedule and a host of new services following a record-breaking winter season in 2023. The airport, which has seen rapid growth and increased connectivity, has nearly doubled its airline partnerships from six to ten since the pre-pandemic period, offering travellers a wider array of routes and improved passenger experiences.
Expanding Airline Partnerships and Destinations
Travellers can now enjoy flights to key destinations with airlines such as SAS, Aurigny, Ryanair, Eurowings, and Eastern Airways. The expanded network supports the local economy and enhances travel convenience, making it easier for passengers to reach their favourite destinations.
Cornwall Airport Newquay is the only airport in England on Edelweiss’ network, offering direct flights to Zurich. Edelweiss has increased its rotations to Zurich, now flying on Wednesdays and Sundays, and extended its 2025 season to start at Easter, providing more options for short breaks.
Upgraded Facilities and Enhanced Services
To complement the new routes, Cornwall Airport Newquay has focused on upgrading its facilities and services. In May 2024, the airport opened a new café and retail area, adding 62 square metres of refurbished space. This will soon be followed by a next-generation security upgrade to enhance passenger safety and streamline the travel process.
Additionally, the airport has expanded its hire car services with the inclusion of Enterprise alongside Hertz and Europcar. A new headquarters for the designated on-site taxi company has also been established this year, ensuring seamless ground transportation options for travellers.
Record-Breaking Passenger Numbers and Increased Connectivity
Cornwall Airport Newquay’s impressive growth trajectory continued into 2024, with significant increases in passenger numbers and air traffic movements each month. Highlights include:
- January: 18,318 passengers, a 26% increase from the previous year.
- February: 22,084 passengers, a 106% increase from the previous year.
- March: 26,768 passengers, a 70% increase from the previous year.
The airport has handled a total of 138,519 passengers since January 2024, with the average load factor rising from 65.6% last year to 73.4% this year (April – June).
Commitment to Exceptional Passenger Experience
Samantha O’Dwyer, Managing Director of Cornwall Airport Newquay, emphasised the airport’s dedication to enhancing passenger experiences. “As we head towards the summer holidays, our commitment to providing exceptional air connectivity for Cornwall and beyond remains at the forefront of all our operations. We’re continuing to enhance our passengers’ experience at every opportunity – from upgrading our facilities to installing new WiFi, we want to ensure we’re keeping Cornwall connected every step of the way.”
Sudeep Ghai, Chief Commercial Officer of Aurigny, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, “We’re delighted to add Newquay to our network this summer, giving the people of Guernsey the opportunity to experience the remarkable beauty of the Cornish coast. And likewise, we hope to bring the people of Cornwall to Guernsey to experience the warmth of our three islands.”
