In a swift operation on Tuesday, 11th June 2024, Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team and St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team joined forces to rescue an injured dog walker at Perran Sands.

The incident occurred around 09:12, prompting an immediate response from both coastguard teams and the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

Quick Response to Emergency Call

The rescue teams were alerted to the emergency at 09:12, with the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team receiving their tasking at 09:18. The casualty, who had fallen and injured their leg while on a dog walk near St Pirans Oratory, required urgent medical attention. Demonstrating seamless coordination, both coastguard teams made their way across the dunes to locate and assist the injured individual.

Specialist Paramedics Onboard

Upon reaching the casualty, the teams were joined by a Paramedic Operations Officer with over 26 years of experience, accompanied by two Specialist Critical Care Paramedics. This ensured that the injured dog walker received immediate and high-quality medical care at the scene. The combined expertise of these medical professionals ensured the casualty was stabilised and safely transported to the nearby Perran Sands Holiday Park for further care.

Safety Measures and Advice

After initial treatment, the casualty was assisted into a private vehicle for transportation to the hospital, with the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team extending their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team emphasised the importance of using the “What 3 Words” app, which can significantly aid in pinpointing precise locations during emergencies. This technology can prove invaluable when calling 999 for help, allowing rescue teams to respond more efficiently.

Stay Safe on the Coast

Both coastguard teams reiterated the importance of coastal safety, reminding the public to dial 999 and ask for the coastguard if they see someone in difficulty along the coast. The swift and professional response to this incident highlights the dedication and expertise of the rescue teams in ensuring public safety along the coastline.

Stay safe and always be prepared when enjoying the scenic beauty of our coasts.
