Fans Rally for Safety at Sea: Over £760 Raised During Rugby Match!
In a heartwarming display of community support and sportsmanship, fans at the recent rugby match between Cornish Pirates and Coventry showed their generosity, raising £768.74 for a vital cause.
The match, held at Mennaye Field, was not only a day of victory for the Cornish Pirates but also a triumph for charity.
A Winning Day for All
Ian Vinnicombe, the Station Manager at the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) station at Gwennap Head, expressed his delight over the successful fundraising event. “It was a great day, with not only a perfect winning result for the Cornish Pirates but also a fabulous afternoon with our collection buckets amongst the crowd,” he commented. The sum collected will bolster the efforts of the NCI, known affectionately as the ‘Eyes Along The Coast,’ which relies entirely on public donations and local support.
Supporting the Unsung Heroes
The NCI plays a crucial role in supporting Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, contributing significantly to coastal safety. The funds raised will directly aid the running of their watch station, ensuring that they continue their essential work along the coast.
Gratitude to Supporters
Ian extended a heartfelt thanks to both the team and the fans, whose contributions reflect a deep commitment to community welfare. “Our sincere thanks are once again expressed to the Cornish Pirates for their response and that of the wonderful supporters who contributed,” he added.
