CrossCountry, the long-distance train operator, has donated £40,000 to the Cornwall Community Foundation, supporting nine charities across the county.

The funding comes from CrossCountry’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund and has been matched by the Cornwall Community Foundation, resulting in a substantial donation for grassroots projects.

Broad Impact Across the Duchy

The donation period, which concluded in April, has seen a total of £40,000 distributed to nine different charities across Cornwall. This support aligns with the Foundation’s ongoing mission to aid communities through small grants to grassroots organisations.

Among the beneficiaries are projects like Get Together Cornwall, which supports families impacted by autism and Asperger’s syndrome, and MCH Wheal Prosper, a day opportunities centre for adults with learning and physical disabilities. CrossCountry’s involvement has enabled these organisations to continue their vital work in the community.

Strengthening Community Support

Sarah Gould, Regional Director for CrossCountry’s West & Wales region, expressed her excitement about the partnership. “It’s been fantastic to help the Cornwall Community Foundation support such a broad range of projects across the Duchy this year,” Sarah said. CrossCountry is the only national train operator connecting Cornwall to the rest of the country, and the company sees its support for local communities as critical.

Collaborative Efforts

Tamara Sherston-Baker, Development Director at the Cornwall Community Foundation, highlighted the value of business support in Cornwall. “It’s been fantastic to work with CrossCountry to help even more projects across Cornwall. We look forward to working closely with CrossCountry again in the future.”

Empowering Local Communities

Elsewhere in Cornwall, funding was allocated to Crimestoppers and social enterprise Unique Voices to raise awareness amongst young people on the risks of trafficking and exploitation, particularly around County Lines drug trafficking.
