Discover the Heartwarming Story Behind Wadebridge’s New Memorial Stone
In an inspiring display of community spirit, a group of volunteers, known as the “Wadebridge Standing Stone” volunteer group, has unveiled a touching tribute to the resilience and losses experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This beautiful spot, nestled adjacent to the scenic Camel Trail, not only offers a place of reflection but also beautifies the local area with thoughtful additions.
A Testament to Community Strength
The origins of this project trace back to the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic when residents of Wadebridge found solace and companionship in regular meet-ups along their local beach. What started as informal gatherings has now blossomed into a significant community endeavour, spearheaded by the dedicated volunteers of the “Wadebridge Standing Stone” group.
With the valuable input from the Countryside team and the support of the Cormac Volunteer scheme, this group has successfully transformed a vision into reality. The centrepiece of their efforts is a “memorial” stone, thoughtfully designed to serve as a poignant reminder of the hardships and losses endured during the pandemic.
A Sanctuary by the River
In addition to the memorial stone, the site features an array of new benches, offering a tranquil spot for visitors to sit, reflect, or simply enjoy the serene views of the river. The area is further enhanced by the planting of bulbs and flowers, adding a splash of colour and vitality that symbolises hope and renewal.
The group’s commitment doesn’t end with the creation of this space; they continue to maintain the area together, ensuring it remains a welcoming and well-cared-for oasis. Positioned conveniently by the Camel Trail, it provides a perfect pause point for those returning from a cycle ride from Padstow, offering a moment of peace and reflection.
Join the Effort
This project exemplifies what can be achieved when a community comes together, combining efforts to create something meaningful and lasting. For those inspired by this story and looking to contribute to their local community, the group welcomes new volunteers.
