Cornwall Choir Sings for Global Shelter: The Ingleheart Singers Raise £1,000 for ShelterBox

Published On: 2 April 2024Last Updated: 4 April 2024By

In a harmonious blend of music and philanthropy, the Ingleheart Singers, a community choir based in Cornwall, have struck a chord with their latest fundraising achievement, gathering £1,000 to aid ShelterBox in its mission to provide emergency shelter to those displaced by conflict and disaster worldwide.

This act of generosity underscores the choir’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting both local and international causes, with ShelterBox being their chosen charity for global aid.

Harmonising for a Cause

Under the direction of musical director Claire, the choir has dedicated itself to an array of fundraising activities throughout 2023, benefiting ShelterBox, a Cornwall-founded international disaster relief charity. From singing on boat trips to performing in pubs across the county, and even holding concerts at the Eco Park and the Truro Cathedral, the choir’s efforts have been both vibrant and impactful.

One of the year’s highlights was their participation in ShelterBox’s inaugural carol concert at Truro Cathedral—a memorable evening marked by a dramatic fire alarm evacuation, which culminated in a unifying outdoor sing-along under the stars. This event, among others, exemplified the choir’s commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in dire need of shelter and support.

A Continuing Chorus of Support

Claire’s decision to make ShelterBox the choir’s permanent choice for international charity support stems from a shared Cornish heritage and a profound respect for the charity’s global humanitarian work. Since its inception in 2000, ShelterBox has extended its helping hand to over 2.5 million people across roughly 100 countries, with its initiatives funded by public donations.

Currently, ShelterBox is actively involved in Gaza, addressing the urgent needs of 1.9 million people affected by ongoing conflict. The charity’s response includes the provision of tents, sleeping mats, blankets, and water carriers, working closely with local partners and Rotary to reach those most in need.

A Symphony of Support and Solidarity

Louisa, a community fundraising officer at ShelterBox, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Claire and the Ingleheart Singers for their sustained support and significant contribution. Their participation in the carol concert, notably alongside Fern Britton, was highlighted as a particularly special moment of solidarity and community spirit.

The Ingleheart Singers, which began as a quartet in 2006 and has since grown to over 50 regular members, stands as a testament to the power of community and music in fostering change and awareness. With an open-invitation policy for new members, the choir continues to welcome all who wish to lend their voices to causes that resonate beyond borders.

For those inspired by the Ingleheart Singers’ endeavours or seeking further information about ShelterBox and its life-saving work, visits to shelterbox.org are encouraged.

Through their melodies and commitment, the Ingleheart Singers have not only enriched the cultural tapestry of Cornwall but have also contributed to a global chorus calling for compassion, aid, and a better tomorrow for those facing the harshest realities of life.
