Ozzell Bowl Hosts Fundraising Event for Huntington’s Disease Awareness

Published On: 27 March 2024Last Updated: 27 March 2024By

In an inspiring act of community solidarity, Ozzell Bowl in St Austell is set to host a three-day fundraising event from the 30th of March to the 1st of April.

The event, featuring a bake sale, raffle, and Easter egg hunt, aims to support the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA). This effort comes from a deeply personal place, driven by a family’s harrowing journey with Huntington’s disease, a genetic disorder that has profoundly impacted them across three generations.

The Story Behind the Fundraiser

Eleven years ago, the organiser’s only encounter with Huntington’s disease was through a TV show. However, this remote familiarity turned into a stark reality when it became one of the potential diagnoses for their great auntie a decade ago. Initially dismissed due to no known genetic connection, the reality of the disease’s presence in their family unfolded tragically over the years. Now, seven family members have tested positive for the disease, which affects the nervous system and has no cure or substantial treatment options.

The event at Ozzell Bowl is not just a fundraiser; it’s a mission to contribute to the search for a cure, better treatments, and to offer support to others affected by Huntington’s disease. The disease’s impact is a constant reminder of the urgency for solutions and support.
